Activities Summary

In December, the Czech conductor Libor Pesek and pianist Ivan Moravec met with Jillian Poole after a concert in which they participated with the Baltimore Symphony. They asked whether The Fund would be willing to consider a program of assistance to a very select few outstanding young Czech musicians in order to launch their careers on the international scene. The young artists they had in mind are well known to them and to conductor Jiri Belohlavek and the three of them believe these musicians are worthy of special treatment. The matter was further discussed with Miryam Yardumian, Artistic Administrator of the Baltimore Orchestra and Linda Marder, concert agent for Moravec, both of whom felt there was a possibility of launching a limited program to give the young artists visibility.

The Fund raised the question at its annual meeting and Jack McAuliffe, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, American Symphony Orchestra League and Grant Beglarian agreed to further explore the question in cooperation with the individuals listed above.
